ITUGURURU CHILDREN'S HOME
WATER PUMP PROJECT
|
|
We shared with you in our last post about the children living in the Itugururu children's home and how their access to water was a struggle. For nearly all of us living in the UK and Ireland access to clean safe water is taken for granted. We just turn on a tap to clean our teeth, do the dishes, make a cup of tea or to wash. Most of us never take time to think where this water has come from. Until recently these children had to travel some distance with containers to fill at a local water source, then carry the heavy filled containers back to the children's home. An additional burden for children who have so little already.
After the ETO team visited in November 2024 it was agreed ETO would help and install a water pump. Listen to the video below of the Pastor who looks after these children sharing a little bit about them and their needs.

Thanks to a kind supporter we began the project in January 2025. We are please to be able to report that this project is now completed, and the water pump is fully operational, bringing water directly to the children. As an additional benefit the pump will also help the staff to plant and grow crops to provide food for the children.
We thank God for this pump and the provision it gives.

BRINGING ELECTRICITY TO THE ETO RESCUE CENTRES
|
|
We recently received a worrying report from Livingstone of an incident where a venomous snake was found in one block of the rescue centres where the children sleep. Thankfully on this occasion no-one was bitten as the consequences of a snake bite could have been life threatening.
As a result action was taken swiftly to ensure the safety of both the children and the staff who look after them. As soon as possible ETO arranged for electricity and lighting to be installed into both rescue centres as a way to try and reduce the risk of another incident.
The photos below show the new lights in our rescue centers.

FOOD AID & THE COST OF LIVING
|
|
Like in the UK and Ireland, Kenya has also seen a dramatic increase in the cost of living over the last few years. Unfortunately since the start of this year food inflation has only gotten worse. Growers in Kenya who planted seeds during the short rain season, between October to December would normally expect to harvest their crops by February or March however this year due to the adverse weather conditions (first no rain, then too much rain) most crops have been totally wiped out resulting in, lower food supplies and rising prices.
A bag of Maize, (one of the cheaper food products in Kenya) in January was 3300 KES (approx. £20), the same bag is now 4950 KES (approx. £30). A 90Kg bag of beans was 10,000 KES (approx. £57) . It is now 14,800 (approx. £85)
The ETO farms have also been impacted with our farms being unable to produce a good harvest at the start of this year. As a result we have had to send almost double the amount of money to buy food to feed our children. As ever however God's provision throughout this challenging period has been sufficient.
Our farms have now been replanted in preparation for the longer season, so we are praying for a better weather conditions and a better harvest. We have planted Maize, Sorghum, Cow Peas and Sweet Potato. Livingstone advises if we have a good harvest we can expect 250 bags of 90 Kgs from our farm which will help to mitigate the rising costs.
The photo below showing healthy growth in one of our farms was taken just last week.

"Then you will call upon me, and you will come
and pray to me, and I will listen to you."

Getting Gods people to pray is vitally important to our work.
ETO can testify many times over the last 40 years to the power of prayer, as God has intervened into difficult situations when His people prayed.
Educate the Orphans would therefore like to thank all of our regular sponsors and supporters who have and who continue to pray regularly for our work. We really appreciate your prayers.
Over the last few months however there has been a number of situations in Kenya that have required urgent prayer, as such we have realised we need to update you on some of these situations as soon as they develop so we can ask you to pray.
To do this we are creating a new 'ETO WhatsApp Prayer Group' so we can update you immediately asking for prayer.

When you are praying could you please pray for:
(1) The wife and 2 children of one of our teachers at Muguna Anna who was sadly killed after being hit by a speeding motorcycle late at night.
(2) There was an outbreak of pneumonia across Kenya which also impacted our school resulting in 20 of our children and some of our workers being admitted to hospital. Thankfully the children are now back at school, however one worker is still in hospital. Please pray for his recovery and for the safety of the other children.
Asante Sana (Kenyan for thank you)
God bless you all.
